My confusing crosswords!

When entering this foundation year I had a strong Textiles based background, as it was what I studied at A-Level, but I also had a yearning to draw more.

When I found I was doing Fashion and Textiles first I was excited, as I thought I would be stretched more using different materials and fabrics. However this area allowed me to draw, which I enjoyed immensely. Being that Fashion and Textiles was my first rotation I didn’t really know how it all worked, with having a Crit at the end of the two weeks. I didn’t really know I had to have a whole project that linked together with final outcomes by the end. However I ended up with two strong final pieces, with drawing and research all ending up linking together. I also found I wasn’t worried about my outcome. I don’t know if this is because I was a novice to the course or because it just comes naturally. I enjoyed this rotation so much as it was a breakout from the structured and restrictive textiles course at school.

But then this is where my head starts getting confused, I had Fine Art next. As I said at the beginning I had a yearning for drawing and colour, which Fine Art allowed me to use and show off. I enjoyed the use of continuous lines in my drawing and adding flashes of colour. This I didn’t do in Fashion and Textiles because I felt shy at the beginning of the course, however even in two weeks time I felt myself growing in confidence. My time in Fine Art made me grow the most and made me produce work out of my comfort zone. These two weeks stretched me to create work beyond my expectations and inhibitions.

I don’t feel Vis Com is for me. I over thought the brief too much, as I was worried what people would think of my work. I had heard from people who had done the course before me, that it’s an area where your work can be heavily criticized. I enjoy working off a brief which is why I enjoy textiles so much, as a little guide can help. This is what I found so interesting about Fine Art, because its not brief based and I enjoyed this aspect.

3D Spatial is a heavily brief based area. I thoroughly enjoyed this aspect, like in Fashion and Textiles, I found myself not thinking about what I was doing and just enjoying the design aspect of this area. I found that I could use my love of colour in a controlled way which worked well with my pieces I created.

So this is my dilemma. Vis Com isn’t my forte, and for me was my most unsuccessful project, so is ruled out as an option. Then there are the other three areas. I really enjoyed 3D Spatial and the work I produced I was pleased with, but I don’t think its quite what I am looking for. So my dilemma is to go with Fine Art and follow my yearning for drawing and colour, but not work with a brief, or to go with Fashion and Textiles.

In conclusion, I have enjoyed the whole experience and have grown in my abilities.  The question now is whether to try something different or to follow my heart with Fashion and Textiles which is the area I feel I have the most confidence and ability in.

3D Spatial- Second week

I have really enjoyed this second week of 3D Spatial, its been very surprising, as I didn’t really think it would be for some reason, however I have surprised myself!!
Day 35.
Today we were given the brief of designing, a structure to walk through- not a building, a structure to hold the human body- not a chair and a structure to hold a small object- not a box. This I was quite uncertain about the whole thing, I didn’t really know where to start, as we had to use our structures we repeated over the weekend and I felt mine was to flimsy and big. But I then my brain sort of let go and I found my structure had two parts, the left hand side and the right, which allowed me to bend them together and play around which I really liked. I found them difficult to draw to show my thought process as they were just lines and cardboard, but I gave it ago! By the end of the day I came up with one good idea for the structure to hold a small object, which I did by just folding and bending two of my structures together, it worked well I thought. Here is a photo of my structure to hold a small object, it only holds a pencil sharpener but oh well!!!!

I really like this structure I think its really different and interesting which I love! Im very pleased with how it looks! YAY!!!

Day 36.
So today my task was to create a design for, a structure to walk through and a structure to hold the human body!  I came up with my design to walk through quite quickly today and I actually really like it! It allows people to have a nice walk through my structure, with light coming through the areas I have cut out, this I think is really nice!  Here are some photos below!

This structure I really like also, I think its really different but interesting also and I'm again really pleased with how its turned out!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So also today I was trying out different colours of card to create this structure, I tried using white card, to make it more neutral compared to the orange, but this didn’t really work unfortunately. So I went and bought some more card but grey, as this I thought would be neutral, and allow people to enjoy walking through the structure. I also scaled it up a bit, instead of making it out of a A5 piece of paper I used an A4 piece, so its ever so slightly bigger which is the scale I wanted!!! See the photos of this structure below!

Unfortunately today I really struggled with creating a design for the structure to rest the human body on. I figured out that my design is quite rigid and would b uncomfortable to sit or rest on, so I decided to try and bring in a curve to my design. But my brain was boggled with to many things by the end of today, so I decided to take a break and look at my work with a fresh eye tomorrow!

Day 37.
Area talks today and I was hoping that these talks would help be decided what area I will go into and that I would be able to make that decision very easily. However I was completely wrong! I came out of the lecture theatre with an even more boggled mind!!!!!!!! They all seem really interesting and I think I would enjoy all of the areas, even Vis Com which I didn’t enjoy really the second week, but the things they have created look amazing! Fashion and Textiles looks great also, with the way they manipulate they fabric, but the way they also manipulate their ideas to create what they are now. 3D and Spatial looked great also, with structure part of this course I really liked and think I would find it fascinating!! Fine Art also looks really good, with the variety of things I'd be able to do in this area. Media, the work people have created looked great too, just amazing!!! I think I would like them all! My brain has never so stuck in what to do, so many things to think about!! Arrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! So I went home to make a bacon sandwich to make things better to do my 3D Spatial work this afternoon!
So this afternoon I decided to focus on the structure to rest the human body on. I stuck with the idea of trying to put in a curve to my work, to make it nicer to sit on. Its hard to explain so here are the photos of this piece below!!!

Above are photos of my structure to hold the human body! I have created a curve in which people can sit on and relax as it will be comfortable for the spine to relax on. I have also managed to put the cut out slits on top and also I put the paper clips on top also. This also allows the customer to see the sky above through the paper clips. The sides are blocked out by the arms on the side, as these will block the sun out because the top will let the sun in. I'm also pleased with this structure too, its different to my other pieces with the curve, which I have to say I really like!!! YAY!!!! Also I made this structure out of card, but of a plum colour because I thought it would be warming for the customer to sit on.
Also below are pictures of my structure to hold a small object, here I have just scaled up the same design as before. Again I went up from using an A5 piece of paper to an A4 piece. This I think worked well as I was able to place a lip balm inside! I really like this structure! Again I chose to use a deep blue colour as then all my structures have a link between them with the slits and paperclips, but also the coloured paper works well together and brings them together as three pieces- if this makes sense! I hope so!!! Below are my photos of my piece! YAY!!!!!

Day 38.
As I have completed all my structures I went and met my Dad for lunch. Then he took me to a little gallery called the 'aicongallery' and in the gallery was work by Rasheed Araeen.  His work was very modular like, it was 3D, and all his pieces looked like structures of their own! I really liked his work and it linked well to my structures I thought, being that they had sections cute out of them, and that mine are fragile looking like Araeen's. I wasn’t aloud to take photos in the gallery, so here is the link to the gallery and his work, so you can see his work also. I hope you like it like I did!

Day 39.
Crit day today, and I was fine about today’s Crit because I was pleased with the work I had produced! However I was so silly and forgot to bring in my 45 minute drawing I did, so I managed to go home and pick it up in time before the crit. I was pleased with the lay out I did with the time I had when I got back, however it meant I didn’t have time to talk to the tutors about the work I had produced which was a shame really! The Crit with my peers went okay, they liked my design and the colours I'd used but they thought it was to fragile, that it would fly away, but I would make the actually structure out of stronger material so it would survive the elements. Otherwise it was a good Crit! The work they had produced was really good also, I love to see other peoples take on what we all have been given its great!!!!!
I have really enjoyed this area and I would love to go into it and get my design juices going, as I’ve really enjoyed this!! YAY!!!!!!!!!

Weekend.
So this weekend I don’t have any work for an area, but I have to decide which area I'm going to go into!!! SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really stuck as I have enjoyed all of them and most of the projects I have done so I’m really stuck on what to pick!!! Wish me luck!!!!

3D Spatial continued...

So on Monday I got carried away with how much I enjoyed 3D Spatial!! Then I got really busy doing the work for 3D Spatial that I left my blog for a bit but here is how the rest of the week went!

Day 31.
So today in 3D Spatial we continued drawing our structures, which I really enjoyed! The first half of the morning we carried on drawing on the piece of paper we did on Monday, so i ended up filling a whole A1 page double sided which I was really pleased with! For the rest of the morning we moved to a different structure to do some drawings, these were timed with different exercises to do which I also found really useful. I ended up with some great drawings I thought!
Then in the afternoon we went outside into the air, and drew objects or things based on the words: boundary, line, edge, junction, joint, connection, levels, mapping, gap, opening, light, slice, angle and support. This was good, we didn’t have long but I liked it even though it was really cold outside and raining! So then we ended the day with our brief for Wednesday and Thursday!
Day 32.
So today I had my contextual studies seminar which was very interesting as it was based around the idea of Art vs. Design. We had to give our views on how they are different. To me design is a person designing a building for everyone to see, however this is art because they have designed it how they want and think looks good. This is the same way an artist makes a piece of work, as they do what they want and that feels good to them. To me they are similar things both have the same characteristics just a different title. It was very interesting to here what other people had to say. Hopefully this debate in its own way, will help me to choose which pathway to pick! Fingers crossed!
Day 33.
So today I set out to do what was asked of me for 3D Spatial on Friday. I went to the Southbank to draw things which related to the words above (on day 31). I enjoyed it, finding things that worked and also able to draw! However all my drawings were quick because it was really cold in the shade of the Southbank! I also took photos and then got them developed! It was a good day! YAY!!!
Day 34.
Today was based around the drawings and the photos we took on the past two days! The brief for the morning was to make 3 hand sized structures out of the items we had to bring in, like paper, clips, plasters and elastic bands! I enjoyed it, trying to pick the best photo or drawing to come up with a good structure. Below are the pieces I made and the photos they came from!

So here is a photo of the joint of a bicycle. Then below in the newspaper and cocktail sticks is my interpretation of the joint. I quite like this piece, however its not my favourite piece.

Below is a picture of  bridge/support which I found interesting! Then below in black is my interpretation of the bridge, this I don’t like, because it looks like a centipede which creeps me out, out well!!

Below is a photo of a building on the Southbank, which I really like. Then below in orange is my interpretation of the building which I really like. I like the shape which I have created with the cuts I have chosen and the colour really works I think!!! This is the piece which I will make four more off, I really like it!

So I have decided to pick this piece to focus on because I think its got the most potential in it to make a good piece of work, but also I just really like it. I like the cuts, folds and the fact that it looks like my photo, but its also different in its own way! YAY!!!
So in the afternoon today, we went outside again, to take photos of our pieces in position with buildings to the side and things like that to make it look like a proper building! I think this looks really good!!! See the pictures below!

These are the only two that I liked, the others I didn’t think really worked, oh well! However I'm not sure if my structure needs more work or not? Just changing it a tad, we shall see over the weekend! One thing I will change is the material I used. I want use paper I'll use card, same colour though!!!!
Weekend.
So I have kept the same structure and I'll see how Monday goes with this piece! I have made five structures of the same in card, over the weekend and I'm pleased with how they look!!! I have also researched the word Modular for Monday! Looking forward to it!!!!!!!! YAY!!!

First day of 3D Spatial

Day 30.
I started 3D Spatial today and I really enjoyed it! In the morning we got into groups of six and then we started making a 3D map which showed all our journeys to get to England and London and then Chelsea. We built what looks like the world, then had string coming down which allowed us to show on the string our journey. We used electrical tape, post-it notes, paper and other things to show this. I really liked creating this spatial object!!!!!! Below are photos that I have taken of our map to Chelsea!

Above are my photos of today’s masterpiece! There are alot of photos I know I somehow uploaded all of them I took today and so I didn’t think any point of taking them off!
This afternoon I had a great day too. We were drawing our installation 16 times on A1 paper I folded. This I really liked as I used many different materials and colour to draw. My drawings I found today are quite linear which I really like! Tomorrow we are drawing each others installations which I think should be great fun too! I had a great day YAY!!!!!!!!!

My second week on Vis Com

My second week on Vis Com and I was looking forward to it because the first week I really enjoyed! However from the project title I thought it was going to be challenging for me as an individual as its not how a really work in my brain. Oh well, I gave it my all and still enjoyed it.
Day 25.
Today the project 'audience' started. Over the weekend I came up with some ideas for the sender and receiver project. The ideas I had were, 'Mum can you do my washing please?', 'Gran can you bake me some cakes please', 'Can I come to Sunday Lunch please, Uncle James?'. So today I just brainstormed my ideas and how I would send that message. For the washing idea I would write it on washing tablets and pegs, for my Gran to make me cakes I would make cake flowers and send them to her as she does flower arranging. Then to be invited for Sunday Lunch by my uncle I came up with the idea of making paperclips in the shapes of vegetables as he's a solicitor and they would be useful for him. These are the ideas I came up with, but I never used any of these ideas.
Day 26.
Again this was a day of brainstorming ideas and coming up with the idea of sending the message. I decided to go with the message of asking my Uncle to invite me to Sunday Lunch, this seemed the hardest one and that’s supposed to create your best work but I struggled. The idea of creating a campaign to be asked for lunch was thrown in the mix, pictures of vegetables in court and showing my route to his house by tube maps including veg. By the end of the day I still didn’t really have a solid idea to create for Friday, but I was going to try really hard on the next two days I had off.
Day 27.
I had my contextual studies lecture today and it was taken by the artist Dominic Wilcox and he was so inspiring I really enjoyed it! His work was just things of what he really loved doing, just giving anything and everything ago which was great to here about! It gave me inspiration to go home and just try out everything to make my Vis Com work its best. In the afternoon, I painted the journey of the tube map that I would take to get to his. Then I cut of pictures of food to be included in my piece.
Day 28.
I carried on with making my map of going to my Uncles. Once finished I did think I would take photos of the pieces at tube stations to show how my Uncle would get the message. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to do this as I had to photocopy the pages for the Crit o Friday.  I have tired so hard for this piece, I have struggled alot with the message and how to put it across, I think my problem is I worry that its got to be good as its a Crit then I panic and produce work I will never be happy with because I know I've struggled. If this makes sense to you at all?
Day 29.
Crit time today, and I was really not looking forward to it, I had butterflies in my tummy and a really bad headache due to the worry from this project, I'm really silly! So I put up my work and hoped for the best. Nothing was said either good or bad by the tutors so I don’t know what that means, but I was pleased because I don’t think I could have taken any criticism about this piece of work without breaking down. Only because I tired really hard on it, and I know it wasn’t very good. From the Crit with my peers, it went okay but it was a really confusing piece of work and that made them struggle to understand what the message was. Below are pictures of my work so you can see what I mean about it all.

So above are the pieces of work I created for Vis Com in the past week. In the Crit I got some criticism by my peers which looking at my piece would of worked much better and wouldn't have confused them. Like I could of had just food pictures on the tube line I would take to get to his, then it would show my journey clearer and they may of understood more clearly. They also said I should of maybe kept to the Uncle idea rather then looking at food more. It was good criticism and I liked having it, but it would of been better during this process! Oh well!!! However with all this, I told my Uncle about my project and I was invited to Sunday Lunch! YAY!!!!

Sunday 10 October 2010

VIS COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week Five.
Day 20.
I started the third rotation today which is Vis Com, which I thought would be computer based and things, but like all the rotations on this course its never what you expect! So we started by being put in a pair then we were given a word to create days outcome from! I was given 'Tie' and Cally was given the word 'Ear'. To start we had to do quick drawings from the word, to get our creative juices flowing! It was good! We then had to combine our ideas and words together to come up with a finally outcome! With our words we came up with the idea of communicating without sound, like sign language and lip reading, as Cally had 'Ear' and with my 'Tie' we said it all linked and tied together! Separately we then created our own final piece from our idea. See mine below!

This drawing shows people smiling but I was focusing on their lips. I like the way I have drawn this, its quite child like which is one thing I don’t like, but oh well. The Lips on the side is meant to show different lip shapes that lip readers look out for. Then I wrote 'Help' in different languages around the side which was meant to be another communication barrier of people not knowing what to say. But then it was said that they are all smiling but asking for help? Which is a mistake I have made but oh well! Silly me!
Day 21.
I was in collage today which is very different as normally I have this day off! Oh well, as I had a really good day! We were given our new project for the next two days today and I really liked it. We had to create a story from a list of words and make it from found images I brought in! The word I chose was Hibernation, and I had the idea of having an imaginary hedgehog travelling to his Hibernation place. I was told not to have a picture of the hedgehog, but show his journey! This I found challenging but I really enjoyed it! I was slow working today so got three pages done!
Day 22.
Today was contextual study day for some people but not me! So firstly I went to the Cass Art Student day, to get some drawing materials for my story board thing! Then in the afternoon I carried on with my work! I gave my hedgehog more things to do! I really had fun with it, but also am very pleased with the outcome of my work!! YAY!!!!!
Day 23.
I finished my work yesterday, I came up with 13 pages of my story so I was satisfied with my work! I went to my Dads office and got them photocopied in colour for free! Being a student and all I was very pleased! Then I went to the Knitting and Stitching show at Alexandra Palace with my friend! I've been going for the past 4years so I just had to go again!!! They have stalls selling all sorts of things but they also have Artists there showing their work they have done, which I found inspirational for my work in Vis Com.
Below is an Artist called Ton Zwerver, whose work I picked because he layered found images to create, what I think is a great piece of work. One thing I would say is that this piece is quite dark, I would have added more colour!

Ton Zwerver

Another artist  I found today was a lady called Susie Vickery. I really enjoy looking at her work because it to me has a sense of fun. With the coloured background and the raven, but also the ravens had a pull tag and you could make their wings flap which I loved! I thought her work had a sense of being illustrated so linked well into my Vis Com work! Unfortunately I was allowed to take photos of her work, but it they are in my in little sketch book that I carry around with me.
An artist I found at the Knitting and Stitching and show whose work I really enjoy is James Clark. His work is of dogs, but they are made from found images like maps, old packaging, playing cards and things like that! I really liked his work, there was a sense of fun in his work which was great! His work also reminded me of the work I have been doing with Vis Com at the moment! See his work below.

James Clark

How amazing are these pieces of work! I love them! The Dalmatian is 100% my favourite Dog that he has created! However I do love the huge ears on the dog below the Dalmatian!
Day 24.
Today was the Crit of our work we have done for project two! In the morning I wrote up about the artists above, then I put up 7 of my favourite pieces of the work I have created! I was very pleased with them when they were on the wall! YAY! In the afternoon, we went round in groups of three discussing each others work! It was great to see what everyone else has created and which word they took on and how they interpreted it, which was great! I enjoyed this exercise! Below are photos of the 7 pieces I put on the wall!

Above are 7 photos of part of my story for Vis Com! I am very pleased with my pieces that I have created! I hope you like them, I really liked working with the different materials I brought into work with! I really have enjoyed Vis Com this week! YAY!!!!!!

Weekend.
This weekend we were told to think of messages that we want to tell people of things that we have done, or that we want to tell them. So my brain has been working and I think I have come up with some good ideas! On Sunday I went to the Tate Britain and I went to the Rachel Whiteread exhibition which I really enjoyed! I love the way she worked on graph paper for most of her drawings! Also the materials she worked with I thought worked really well! After Whiteread's exhibition I went to go and see Fiona Banner's current installation 'Harrier and Jaguar' again at the Tate Britain for Contextual Studies! I didn’t know what I was expecting but there were two huge aeroplanes! They were really impressive actually, just the scale of the two pieces I thought was great! This to me is still art, even though it may be a 3D piece, its a piece of art because the designing and the thought process of these pieces must have been huge. I really enjoyed these pieces! See photos of the two sculptures below!

Fiona Banner

I have really enjoyed Vis Com this week, so am really looking forward to the second week of Visual Communications!!!!!!! YAY!!!!

My Fine Art Journey!

Fine Art is finished and completed now! I know this blog is very delayed, however I did write up my first week of Fine Art last weekend, however my computer crashed and it didn’t save so I lost my work. Then I was annoyed so have left my blog for another week! Sorry! But here is how my last two weeks turned out!

FINE ART

Week Three
Day Ten. We started Fine Art today and I wasn’t really looking forward to it, however it turned out I quite enjoyed it! In the morning we started drawing in sketch books, but of the fur installations that were set up around the room. They were all linked with different objects like clay models, rubber rings and plants! They were all very fun to draw as they were interesting and different! In the morning I didn’t really like my drawings, I wasn’t working with the correct materials. In the afternoon however we were drawing the same things and I started using oil pastels and I really liked my drawings! It was a very good day for drawing! YAY!
Day Eleven. It was our self study day today, but we had been set a little project! We were asked to go around a place which was busy with bollards, road signs and interesting objects. We were also asked to draw on the spot what we saw. It was good! Also I had to take photos of interesting things, I it was a good project I liked it! These were things that we had to collect to then work with on the Thursday!
Day Twelve. I didn’t have any lectures today so I just carried on working with my Fine Art work! I went down to my local allotments and took dome photos of a green area which we were asked to do!
Day Thirteen. Back in the studio today and it was based on animation with a media feel to art! We started off by cutting three pieces of acetate into four pieces so we ended up with 12 pieces. Then I walked around one of the installations, walking around it like a clock moving five minutes each time so we ended up with an animation. It was really good! In the afternoon we placed the acetate sheets on to the photographs we took on Tuesday. This was good however it didn’t really work for me. I tired to create some new pieces of acetate from objects off the photographs, however it didn’t really work. I added colour, with coloured permanent markers. I gave it ago but I wasn’t pleased with the outcome. Below are some photographs of the acetate I took.

This is a piece of acetate I made from the objects out of the photos I took on Tuesday. Here I have put a row of chairs at the bottom, from the photo in the background. I also put a pattern from a dress of mine, then placed that pattern in the opposite direction, this I like. I also like the Diverted traffic sign in the top corner.

Here is a photo of a picture I took with some acetate on top, but the drawing on the acetate is from one of the installations. I put it on the side and then added some colour, which I think works really well!

This photo above is a piece that I did in which I copied the image of the skip out many times, then I coloured in the skip, with different colours to make it different! This I like but its not great I don’t think, oh well.
This afternoon I went to the Royal Academy with my Dad to see the exhibition, 'Treasures from Budapest'. It was really interesting I enjoyed it alot. Some of the pieces there were so interesting, the detail was amazing! Also I was amazed by how well the paintings have lasted because they are so old and still look great! However some of the pieces didn’t really interest me in the sense they were to deep to understand, but I'm really glad that I went to visit it! My Dad liked it too!
Day Fourteen. For today we were told to bring in a card board box, so we would be manipulating it in our own way. To begin with we went round the installations again drawing them, so then in the afternoon we could work off them! I enjoyed the drawing as I worked on A1 paper and I really liked it! In the afternoon I started working on my 3D piece, which didn’t work so well to begin with as I was working in a 'tight' fashion. Then I just stopped caring almost and enjoyed it! I ended up making a big 3D piece which I was very pleased with! See the photos below of my sculpture.

Above is a picture of my sculpture which I'm really pleased with! I have to say I really like the blue squares that I have drawn on the brown box, they work really well I think. The space in the structure I think works really well, the shapes I've cut out I really like! YAY!
Weekend. This weekend I was asked to collect photos of things that interested me which I would want to work with next week. So I went to a market and took photos of the fruit and vegetable stall as I was interested by the colours I saw there.

Week Four.
Day Fifteen. This week we have to create an outcome on our own basis! From things that we find interesting, so I went for colour. Today however I really struggled to find the right way to work. I did some paintings of the vegetables but then messed them up with a black permanent pen on top which didn’t look very good. So then I started to paint in light colours very simply which I think worked very well. I then went and researched some artists in the library who paint the way I did today. I looked at Mary Heilmann, whose work I really like. The bright colours and the bold paintbrush strokes I really likes. I also looked at Bernard Frieze, Michael Krebber and Jochen Klein. These artists are all really good and very inspiring!
Day Sixteen. Today I went into Uni even though it was my study day, because I needed to create some more work to get my ideas flowing. I started painting the vegetables in block shapes and colours which I think worked really well. David suggested I look at the artist Monquie Prieto, as she works with block colours and simple shapes which I think look really good. I'm very inspired with the  work she creates and I now have some good ideas for Thursday! YAY!!!! This afternoon I went to the exhibition Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance and the Camera and it was very good! I really enjoyed this exhibition, it wasn’t what I was expecting but it was really good. Some of the photographs were really shocking which I wasn’t expecting. The ones of the suicide photos from CCTV footage were very shocking, but they made you think. I liked it though, I'm pleased I went to the exhibition!
Day Seventeen. I went into Uni today again to do some more work as I didnt feel very prepared for the crot looming on Friday. I went in to do some more paintings of vegtables in block colours again so I had alot of paintings which I would then be able to use some how later. Afterwards I went to the Freshers Fayre and I signed up to do some life drawing classes!
Day Eighteen. Today I started painting some more paintings of fruit and vegetables, but then I decided to make it different and started creating a 3D piece! I cut out some of the shapes of fruit and had them hanging and pieces of tread attaching them. I was a really fun piece to make and I was very pleased with the outcome! Its a very colourful piece but I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all! Its very difficult to describe so below are some pictures of my piece! YAY!!!

Above are some of my photos I took of my final piece that I have made in Fine Art the last two weeks! I'm really pleased with this piece of work! It doesn’t photograph very well as it was a huge piece of work but I think its worked well! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Day Nineteen. Today was the Crit of all our work! But it was okay as I felt good about my work I had created. In the morning we had to put up our best work as a display for everyone else to see in the afternoon. In the afternoon we went round in groups discussing each others work, it was very interesting! Firstly we looked at Ellie’s work and she worked in Black and White as she feels its easier on the eye, your eyes can settle on the work. Her paintings were of insides of bags, as its personal to that person. The photos Ellie took had the flash on which wasn’t on purpose but it gave the photos a different feel which I really likes. Unfortunately Ellie wasn’t pleased with her outcome of her paintings, as one piece was neat and focused however she prefers to work quick. Overall I really liked her work and it was interesting to talk to her about her work.
We then went to look at Lawrence's work which is very different to Ellie’s. His work looks at the movement of Daddy Long Legs as he thought to be very interesting creatures. His work was created with drips from ink which I thought worked really well for the feel of Daddy Long legs. Lawrence also had some paintings of Daddy Long Legs on found objects like wood board and Plastic which gave it another feel which I really like! His work was very interesting to talk to him about and pick his brain about how he works!
We also looked at the work of Ioannis (John) which was photo based with painting as well included. He worked with the idea of obstructing faces from his photos as he liked the joining of the images. Ioannis liked the idea of disproportion, which was very interesting to look at. I really liked a piece of Ioannis's which had mixed media with a movie scene, an apple and a sculpture which all look the same which I thought was very interesting. His inspiration came from an artist called John Baltisaire.
Then we looked at the work of Ayune, which I really enjoyed looking at. The colours that she has used were amazing! Her work involved four canvas's each with the objects of chargers on, in different sizes, shapes and forms which were great! She focused on the idea of line and movement, using different materials to create her work. She liked to look at groups of things, photos she had taken were of carrots, eggs and the chargers which she chose to work from!
Shion was also in our group and her work was looking at the aspect of light! It was amazing to look at! Her culture involves at lot of light which she took and put in her work. Shion's work was two boxes which she had 3D people in which she cut out of photos, then she put a lamp behind the work to create a shadow. Her work also worked with the idea of the flow of life, taking water and light which you got from the colours she choose to use. Her artist inspiration was Kuwakubo Ryota who also worked with the idea of light!
We then looked at work created by Linda who took the idea of vintage into her work. She created shoe boxes which she decorated in pink and yellows which are her favourite colours which is why she chose them. The decoration she put on was of shoes, hence the shoe box idea. Linda also worked with the idea that her work could be wearable, which is why she attached straps to be handbags on the shoulder or to be held. I thought her work was amazing as it was very different to everything I had seen so far.
The last person we looked at, but not least was Su. For her work she focused on the idea of contrast, as she painted the picture she took of her crossroads, then she put on top some acetate with thick black pen of the structure she had made on the Friday. Her inspiration for her work was from Carol Roberts, which worked really well for her work. Su is an amazing painter, I would think this would be the area Su goes into.
Presenting my work to my peers was scary, but I thought it was great! I have really enjoyed Fine Art and am very pleased with my outcome! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
