Some research........

Out and about on my travels in London I have come across some things that could relate to my FMP on Hair.
See below at the pictures:

Below are some pictures I took of a window display when I went home on Thrusday. As a family we went to a really cool cinema called The Rex in Berkemstead! Where we parked there was this really cool display! The Wigs are tossled with straw and paper in them, but they look good I think so I took a photo!!!

Below are some pictures of the Libertys window display, the friday before half term week! I really like the colours in this display! They are bright and floresent which is cool I think! But I really like how the clothes are hanging off light which is great! Then also with the wire for the lights just placed on the floor. But this wire I think looks like Hair, just tossled everywhere! So I'm just putting ideas through my head, but am wondering if I could involed, lights, wire and things in my work maybe?

Below are some pictures of a barbers shop in London. With the traditional red and white sign indicating a barbours! So I took a cheeky photo!

Below are some pictures of the current Jigsaw window display in London. I really like the flowers coming out of the head. Its really different and new! I Like this! The flowers coming out of the head made me think of a different take on hair? This I quite like, I think I might take some colours from here for my colour pallette!

YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY!

Because I'm silly...

So before I started my FMP I did a project called 'It's not what it says on the packet'! So I decided to get my giraffe toys and put pins in them, safety pins, and wire! So they look like soft toys, but actually they are sharp and horrible!
I took photos of them on Monday, but I deleted them on Thrusday before I uploaded them on to my computer! So I dont have them just now! However I will take more next week sometime and put them up! I promise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More really delayed posts!

Right so I've been really silly and havent blogged in ages which is silly!
So my deconstruct project has now finished. I've enjoyed this project but also I found that I have struggled. I enjoyed denconstructing my radio and drawing that as I love to draw!!! See some drawings below!

Below are my favourite samples I did in my deconstruct project which is why I have uploaded them on my blog! Below is a heat press transfer I did of a negative to positive photocopy! I like this sample I'm really pleased with it!! YAY!

Below is my negative to postive photocopy of my circuit board! I really like this!! YAY!

Below is a piece I made by melting into some plastic envolopes which I really really like! Even though it really really smelt when I was doing it! YUCK!

Below is a sample I made by wrapping staples in silk threads! This is meant to look like the little pin things on the circuit board!

So above are my favourite samples from deconstruct! I like them all, they are all really different which is what I like about them! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Film Review

Film Review of 3 Short Films by Jan Svankmajer and A Woman is A Women.

The 3 Short Films by Jan Svankmajer the genre being a drama, were a surprise to me as the  two previous films I found very pleasant to watch, especially A Woman is a Woman (Une Femme is Une Femme). With both films having a language barrier being Jan Svankmajer’s film’s where silent apart from sound effects and, A Woman is a Woman is being in French with subtitle’s gave them both a different feel as you didn’t quite know what to expect.

I found Jan Svankmajer’s films really quite funny with also a touch of disturbance. The fact that three faces were practically being cannibals, and eating each other till they turned into clay models and exploding at the end, to me gave a foreign feel. With the fruit being destroyed and the knives and forks being bent it was disturbing yes, but also quite funny and almost enjoyable to watch. It’s the whole feeling of bringing still 2D pieces to life and making them 3D and giving them a sense of movement.
The other short film that stayed in my mind was the piece involving the tongues. Where two heads where being childish at first and sticking there tongues at each other, a sense of childlike humour but then it turned into a rather more strange piece. When the toothbrush was sharpened with the sharpener, the pencil was wrapped in shoe laces and the shoe was covered in toothpaste, it felt like a touch of humour but also quite gruesome in a way. But you could also take it in a way that maybe with the childish humour, they way things were matched up incorrectly was like a child making a mistake when little? However I found them amusing and told the plot of these films to my family. An exhibition like these films is the Shadow Catchers at the V&A. The use of camera less photography was like these films with the fact they didn’t have a diegetic voice.

A Woman is a Woman is the other film I found amusing to watch, as this woman went about life happy and floating around yet she seemed to know what exactly she was doing. Anna Karina playing the main Woman, Angela, is desperate to have a baby with her boyfriend.
One of the most iconic shots for me is when she flips her fried egg and it lands on the ceiling, then continues with her phone call outside in the hall, then goes back to her egg which falls perfectly on her plate when she gets back. This I found brilliant by the fact that she lives this way, and wants a child, however the hypodermic needle model injects the audience with the feeling that she would in fact be a perfect mother.
The sound in this film is very different to anything I have heard before. Another iconic shot is when Angela is walking down the street to work, and there would be diegetic sound of the street cars, people talking and general life, then there would be no sound at all, then non-diegetic parallel sound to the image we were watching. This I found interesting as most films I’ve watched have never had this mix of sound in one scene.

Both films I found had the use of humour added in, with the political use of cannibalism is Jan Svankmajer’s films, economically both films I felt would have had a small budget however they where made incredibly well. There was a social side to A Woman is a Woman as it involved her friends, but then it was a film talked about a lot after the film. To me both films have a cultural aspect as Jan Svankmajer’s films, even though 30years old now are still talked about and watched in there glory, and A Woman is a Women shows how society was then and its still a bit like it now.

(I hope you like this film review, its a long time since I wrote an essay for Media! Also sorry thats its over the word limit by 100 words it couldnt be helped!!!!)

UCAS

If anyone reading this is interested about my University applications for next year I have been offered an unconditional place at Nottingham Trent University which I'm really pleased with!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!
Also on Wednesday I was offered a place at Chelsea College of Art and Design!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm actually going somewhere next year!!! Its such a good feeling!
I also have an interview at Manchester Mett on the 16th March! For my interview they have asked me to bring in my favourite page of my interview to talk about, as they will have looked at my portfolio without me before hand!!!! SCARY!!!!
I did have a portfolio review at CSM on the 2nd March however the date has changed now!

I'm really happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week One (FMP)

This week unfortunately I have been really busy adding pieces and making my portfolio look smarter for my Portfolio review which was on Wednesday for Chelsea BA Textiles.  However the time was spent well as I have been offered a place on the course! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Through research on Hairextensions, as I'd like to have a play around with them, I found that one of the biggest sellers in Europe are called Dooa Wholesales. They import Hair from India, ship it to China to have to washed, styled, and dyed then sell it on here. Their brand is called Dream Girl (DG) and is found on most shop shelves selling Hair extensions. When I had found this out I was talking to my Dad about it, and from this I found out that Mr. Dooa is one of my Dads main clients, being he's in Property. So my Dad got in contact with him and I was able to go and have a look around his warehouse. It was incredible being able to talk to Mr. Dooa about his bussiness and the hair he gets. When I looked around their where so many pieces, straight, wavey, curly, wigs, different colours. It was kind of creepy through, being that is was real hair hanging up in packets. He was kind enough to give me some samples of hair and then allowed me to choose a set of extensions for me to have and wear- but I choose a really curly set to use in this project!
I took some photos and they are below:

Models with wigs on, I'm not sure if my FMP exhibition will require a models head or not yet?

Close up of hair extensions, I like the colour here.

I like this out of focus picture of the hair, theres something about it.

It was a very interesting trip to the Hair warehouse, I got some good photos, some material to work with ie, the Hair extentions and it was just a good experinece, as I had never been to a store warehouse like that before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Final Major Project Proposal

So my title and theme for my Final Major Project (FMP) is Hair through the ages! Sorry I havent blogged about this before I have been busy with my Portfolio!
So my plan for this project at the moment is to research Hair styles through the ages. Find different styles, like the elizabethen Wigs, Kitch and Sink dramas with women with curlers in their Hair, the Afro and other different styles.
With this project I want to include drawing, as I really enjoy drawing with continous line. I also want to include Humour.
Writing this I realise I'm writing what I have already written in my Project Proposal, so below are my 500 words for this project.

Hair Days

Progress and Achievement
This foundation course has developed me into a stronger and more confident person in relation to my work, broadening my whole prospective. I think about the use of stitch and placement more carefully and I feel the pieces I make are more interesting and unique.

Context

Throughout all the experiences of my foundation course, Vis-Com, 3D or Fine Art, Textiles has been the one I excelled in. The positive outcome of stitching through a bright red tomato encouraged me to pursue textiles with a twist. I wish to develop this in my final piece, through a mix of multi media pieces.
The idea of looking at hair in different eras came from my young cousins cutting their own hair. This got me thinking that hair styles are always changing, as you can see in the pictures below. I want to explore different aspects of hairstyles, and maybe bring them together in different ways. I feel I can be quite playful with my colour palette. This idea came from something quite humorous and I would like to keep that feel in my work.

Project Proposal Aims, Methods and Realization

For this project to be successful I need to do a lot of research. I’d like to find an old Barber shop and find inspiration there. I want to look at photographs of hairdryer drums, the red and white Barber sign and other equipment. I would like to research more an exhibition at the Royal Academy, Aware; Art Fashion Identity, which I visited in December and they had headpieces knitted from women’s hair. I’d like to play around with hair in different ways, by knitting, weaving and use of the heat press.
There are many different eras to look into so I need to narrow my project down to maybe two to three eras. To add the sense of humour I’d like some quirky facts to inject into this project.
The use of materials will also be key. I’d like to explore hair extensions and the different properties I’d be able to buy. Different colours, maybe dye them myself and different thicknesses. The style of the hair being curly for the 1950’s and 1960’s eras, volume for the Afro in the 1970’s and height in the Elizabethan era.
My aim for this project is to start with a huge body of research to guide me in the direction I enjoy most. I intend to inject humour, maybe with a different material to the other part of my piece to make it stand out more. I’m really looking forward to starting and sinking my teeth into this project!

Evaluation

I will use the help of crits with my peers and tutorials to guide me with fresh new ideas. I will record all this in my reflective journal and update my blog with the most important ideas to remind me, but also for my idea changes and solutions for things that didn’t go to plan with this project.

Long time no post!!!

So I know I haven’t blogged in a very very long time but I have to say I've been busy!!!! So I'll catch you up! That’s for who ever is reading this!
I had a lovely Christmas and it was lovely to see all my friends and family! I spent the Christmas focusing on the project 'Overwhelm' and working into it more. I was looking at objects in handbags then I was looking at what my pet would take on holiday. So I did lots of drawing and manipulating of materials with stitch, punching and things like that. I was quite pleased with my work.
I also did the Christmas project 'Random Riches'. I focused on bugs and manipulating my A5 sketchbook, cutting the pages so the drawings I did looked random also! I really liked this project and I enjoyed making it! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So on our first day back at college we had a Crit on our work over Christmas. My work had mixed reviews unfortunately but what can you do, you cant please everyone! I was told my random riches’ project wasn’t random enough!
Friday we were briefed on our new project 'Deconstruction'. I had to go and find some objects to deconstruct for our four week project. Then in the afternoon we did lots of fashion drawings, which I enjoyed!
Over the weekend I ransacked my loft to see what I could find to deconstruct! I found an old blender, our old radio and my old PE trainers!
So for our first week on this project we had to deconstruct our items and document the deconstruction process through pictures! So I started by opening up my blender! See pictures below!

So Monday was an okay day!!!!!

Then I started to deconstruct my radio with my Hammer and the noise was really loud but I managed to get into one speaker so it was successful! YAY!!!! I also drew my radio, the drawings are okay not great but okay! See pictures of my radio below!!

Wednesday I went to the CCW cinema viewing and we watched 'The Long Goodbye', which I thought was really good!!! Then I went back and did some more drawing of my radio!
Thursday I draw the radio, but I really wanted to into the main base of my radio but its so noisy to get into it so I smashed it at lunch when no one was there! So in the afternoon I could do some more drawing of different parts of my radio! Again see pictures below!

Friday I continued to draw my radio! I did some drawings that I was really pleased with! We also had a go at heat transfer on Friday which was good fun! My prints didn’t come out as good as they could of done, but I was happy with the new skill I learnt!
Over the weekend I wanted to get into my radio even more then I had! I wanted to take the lid off the radio and get to the circuit board more! And that’s what I managed, I did some more drawings I was pleased with! More pictures below!

So at the weekend I managed to get into my radio! So I had quite a lot of things to do for the second week of this project! This week started with Monday being the 10th of January!

I will blog the second week of this deconstruction project later today! But right now I'm about to go for a swim with my Dad! So later will do more blogging! Not that you can wait any longer for this amazing piece of writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
